DBOLINGC. Daniel Boling is a folksinger and songwriter from New Mexico who has played all over the country for the past twenty years.  He was the winner at the 2007 Woody Guthrie Folk Festival and performed at the 2009 Winter Folk Festival.  He is an accomplished guitarist, making each song a delicate balance of meaningful lyrics and stylish tunes.  He will make you laugh with his own songs and have you singing along to traditional tunes.

Border Radio, from California, is an original stew of American music that blasts across the borders of roots, dustbowl swing, bluegrass, and country folk. Tight string band arrangements, the Okie torch vocals of Kelly McCune, and great songwriting (Kerrville New Folk Finalist).  It’s eclectic acoustic American and Dustbowl Swing from this great California group!  Be prepared to clap, sing and dance in your seats!

COTY

Bellingham based Coty Hogue and her band (Kat Bula and Aaron Guest) plays music based in the roots/folk genre that features guitar, banjo and fiddle and Coty’s amazing voice. Be prepared for a mix of traditional, contemporary and original tunes included unaccompanied vocals.  Her voice will enthrall you.

 

 

  3:00pm - Hank & Claire

hankclaire Hank Payne & Claire Favro, from Washington State, are a couple of fine singers and guitar players who teamed up in 2009. Hank’s rich baritone voice blends beautifully with Claire’s high alto/low soprano range. They perform songs that will touch you in the funny bone, or in the heart. They do original songs and draw from traditional and contemporary folk material.

 

 

  4:30pm - Three Together

ThreeTogether Three Together are composed of Doug Smith, Judy Koch-Smith and Don Mitchell.  Doug is a Grammy Award winner for his solo guitar work on the tribute CD to Henry Mancini titled Pink Guitar and is considered one of the top five fingerstyle guitarists in the country.  The trio includes the delightful flute of Judy Smith and solid guitar back-up of Don Mitchell. Be prepared to sing along with songs from the Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, Marty Robbins and many other popular artists.

  7:30pm - Tom Chapin & Friends

Grammy, Emmy and Peabody award winning folk artist Tom Chapin has been described as "totally captivating" by the Billboard Magazine, Tom Chapin is a singer, guitar player, TV personality, concert performer, actor, composer, and recording artist. Tom is also renowned for carrying on the work of his brother, the late Harry Chapin, in combating world hunger. Tom will be joined by his musical friends Jon Colbert and Michael Mark  who have collaborated with Tom and are featured musicians on his award-winning children's and adult recordings, and appear in Tom's live concert video. His concert will contain music from Tom's recordings, and will include a mix of original, traditional, and Harry Chapin’s songs. Tom hosted the children's show "Make A Wish" on ABC TV from 1971-1976. For more than thirty years and through nineteen compact discs, Chapin has entertained amused and enlightened audiences of all ages with life-affirming original songs told in a sophisticated array of musical styles.

  10:15am - Abby Mae and The Homeschool Boys

abby mae Abby Mae and The Homeschool Boys, from Port Angeles, Washington, combine the timeless traditions of Old Timey, Gaelic, Blues, & Gospel with the innocence and unbridled joy of youth. Commanding the stage with a voice that is innocent, sultry, and heartbreakingly gorgeous, Abby Mae will leave you captivated. The band is comprised of three rag-tag homeschool boys and one really beautiful public-schooled girl. (Hayden Pomeroy [standup bass], Joey Gish [fiddle], David Rivers [guitar], Abby Mae Latson [vocals]).

 

 

  11:30am - John Hill

JOHNHILL

John Hill is a singer songwriter residing near the beautiful town of Ashland, OR. Though he has been a performing artist for many years, his debut album "Across the Field of Dreams", was just completed as of 1/11.  John has a remarkabe voice and plays slide guitar, rhythm and finger-style guitar, ukulele, and harmonica.  He nimbly mixes his original songs with Irish jigs, cover songs and traditional folk tunes.

Backwater Opera is a chambergrass band based out of Denton, TX.  music is essentially a reflection of their contradicting name, but they do their best to cover all styles including folk, rock, classical, bluegrass, and anything else they can try.Backwater consists of 4 members: Robert Sherwood (Mandolin, Guitar, Vocals), August Dennis (Double Bass), Marisa Korth (Vocals, Guitar, Double Bass), and Carlo Canlas (Violin, Vocals).  Be prepared for amazing toe-tapping set.

 

 

  3:30pm - We Five

Before flower power, the Grateful Dead and the Jefferson Airplane it meant harmonic vocals, a melding of acoustic and electric guitars, folk music, rock and a bit of jazz.  In the mid-60's, it was called folk rock, and it described the music of WE FIVE.   A WE FIVE concert--then and now--means a totally entertaining experience: Smooth harmony, songs about love and good times, humor and a performance style that's polished without being stagy.  The WE FIVE show will capture the mood of the times in the music of the times.  In addition to it's first success with "You Were On My Mind", some of WE FIVE'S highlights include 6 albums, the original hit recording of "Let's Get Together", the first hit with a vocal version of "Cast Your Fate To The Wind," the first single release of "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face", and a Grammy nomination.  The band includes five musicians and singers who have toured and recorded with   WE FIVE.  It's a bright, refreshing and nostalgic step back to a time of new beginnings.

In addition to music, arts, craft, non-profit and food booths at the Events Center there will be informal musical jam sessions on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Best Western Pier Point Inn. All musicians are invited to participate in the sessions. See above for times.
